Introduction to Florida
Law Enforcement Accreditation

Q. What is a "sanctioned mock assessment" and why should I have one?

A. A sanctioned mock assessment is one where the agency utilizes assessors that have completed at least two full assessments for CFA within the last two years. The reason CFA strongly suggests using sanctioned mock assessors is because these individuals have demonstrated an understanding of the intent of the state standards and the process an agency goes through during an onsite. Additionally, these assessors have demonstrated to CFA an understanding of file construction and the number of proofs required to demonstrate compliance. A sanctioned mock assessment also requires that the assessment team make contact with your CFA Program Manager to discuss any issues requiring assistance. The decision to have a sanctioned mock assessment rests solely with the agency. Standards that may be revealed as not in compliance are detected early, and the agency will have the time and experience of the assessors to identify means to come into compliance prior to the actual onsite. CFA Program Managers are always available to discuss these issues and provide advice and guidance.

Q. I'm coming up on the  end of my 24 month self-assessment phase. How do I arrange for a mock assessment? How far in advance of my CFA onsite should I have my mock assessment?

A. You should schedule your mock assessment 60-90 days prior to your CFA assessment. It's the agency's responsibility to arrange for all aspects of the mock, including assessor selection. CFA can provide you with a list of approved assessors. We suggest you conduct your mock assessment just as you would your onsite, to include a static display and personnel interviews to complement file review.

Q. I think my agency is ready to sign up. How do I get started?

A. The first step is to apply. You will receive two agreements, along with an invoice for your accreditation fees. Sign both agreements, and return them to CFA and your 24 month self assessment phase begins the date CFA's Executive Director signs the agreement. One original agreement will be maintained in the CFA office, and one will be returned for your files.
Q. What type of training is offered to help me through this process?

A. CFA offers accreditation manager training, assessor training, a reaccreditation workshop, and "Preparing for the Onsite" class three times a year at different locations around the state. Contact your Program Manager or go to Meetings and Training for more details about these workshops.

Q. A standard has an annual requirement, either for a report or training. What do you mean by annual?

A. Annual means occurring once in a twelve month period. We're looking for compliance from onsite to onsite.
