CITRUS cOUNTY sHERIFF'S oFFICE

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office has an impressive school resource program, acquiring many accolades for their service. In 2005 Citrus County received national recognition as being a model SRO program. One program in particular is Filtering Out Crime United with Students (FOCUS) and Junior FOCUS. FOCUS is a 10 week program and is taught in the fifth grade. This program discusses various topics with impressionable youngsters and seeks to teach them drug education, conflict resolution, gang awareness, assertiveness, peer pressure, consequences, self esteem and cyber safety.  An introduction to FOCUS is taught in the first grade (Junior FOCUS); this program discusses safety topics such as answering the front door, telephone and kitchen dangers.
