MOBILE COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION UNIT CLERMONT POLICE DEPARTMENT |

|
The Community Relations Section is one of the most highly visible divisions within the Clermont Police Department. The Clermont Police Department’s Mobile Community Crime Prevention Unit travels throughout the community conducting presentations to the citizens. The Unit received the 2004 Crime Prevention Unit of the Year Award from the Florida Crime Prevention Association. The Clermont Police Department Community Relations Office offers the following programs to the community at no charge. Child Identification Kit- This grant-funded project provides parents with a fingerprint card, complete with 10 digital fingerprints of the child, as well as two wallet- size ID cards. The child’s photograph and vital information is also provided on the identification cards. Alzheimer’s and Dementia Registry Program - Victims of Alzheimer’s and other Dementia related illness are often robbed of coherent thought. This causes victims to be unable to recognize their surroundings, their homes, caregivers and even other loved ones. As a result, they are prone to “wandering” away from the protective and secure environments provided for them. The Clermont Police Department is involved in a cooperative effort through the Lady Lake Branch of the Alzheimer’s Resource Center to locate and register these special needs individuals. Operation Identification- This is the name given to a nation wide program of marking property indelibly with a Florida Driver’s License number to permit positive identification if the items are stolen or lost. Numbers can be engraved onto metal objects or marked with indelible markers on other materials. Property marking programs make property more identifiable to law enforcement and can therefore aid in its recovery should it be lost or stolen. The greatest benefit, however, is the placement of Operation Identification decals on the home’s windows as a deterrent. Members of the Clermont Police Department will bring the Clermont Police Mobile Crime Prevention Unit to the residence and assist the homeowner with engraving their number on their property. Neighborhood Watch Program - The Clermont Police Department coordinates with citizens in establishing the Neighborhood Watch Program. Child Passenger Safety - The Clermont Police Department has officers that are trained and certified to ensure that car seats are properly installed and fitted for children. Bicycle Safety Program - This program will give and properly fit a bicycle helmet to a child that does not have a helmet. This program also educates the children on how to properly ride a bicycle safely through the community. Identity Theft Program - The Clermont Police Department Identity Theft Program educates citizens on how to properly secure their identity, thus reducing their chances of becoming a victim.
