SEXUAL OFFENDER/PREDATOR TRACKING PROGRAMS

lAKE cOUNTY sHERIFF'S OFFICE

The Sheriff’s Office takes a proactive stance in locating, identifying, and monitoring sexual offenders and sexual predators within the community in an effort to keep the public informed and children protected. Such innovative and proactive programs include the following: Offender Watch: A computerized registration database that the Sheriff’s Office uses that keeps the citizens of Lake County informed on the whereabouts of sex offenders. It also enables citizens to run neighborhood searches, print maps, sign up for e-mail alerts, and search for specific offenders by name. My Space Page: The Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Florida Chapter of Kids Come First in an effort to protect children from online offenders or predators. The Sheriff’s Office is implementing a My Space page so that parents can require their children to add the Sheriff’s Office as a buddy. This will enable close monitoring by the Sheriff’s Office of all suspicious online communications with children in Lake County. Address Listings: The Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the local newspapers, publishes basic information on local sex offenders/predators in the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Predator and Offender Address Listings. These publications inform the public of basic offender/predator information, i.e., names, photographs, addresses, dates of birth, as well as safety tips and information. Multi-agency Sexual Offender/Predator Task Force: This task force was developed by the Lake County Sheriff's Office to improve the management, monitoring, and to conduct threat assessments of the sexual offenders and sexual predators to aid in the prevention of future sexual victimization of all Lake County citizens, especially children. The Lake County Sheriff's Office acts as the central hub of The Lake County Multi-Agency, Multi Disciplinary Sexual Offender/Predator Task force. This task force is comprised of the Lake County Sheriff's Office, all Police municipalities within Lake County, the Department of Corrections Parole and Probation, State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol. This comprehensive system has improved the management of sexual offenders and sexual predators in Lake County and was nominated for national recognition.
